Become Empowered in Your Health

Had it really come to this?  Lying in bed in the middle of the day, with pain and inflammation throughout my body, I felt scared for my future.  I could barely move, let alone muster up the energy to DO something about it. At that point I believed there was nothing I could do, anyway.  Things were out of my control … or so I thought.

Do you believe you can change your health?  Most people know that they probably could take action but they just don’t.  Why? Maybe they don’t believe they can, or maybe they just don’t want it badly enough, or maybe they think they can’t make a difference.

Many of us are getting along fairly well. Yes, we may have some seemingly minor issues - irritations more than anything.  Things like digestive issues, frozen shoulder, skin rashes, insomnia, occasional gout, rosacea.  Bothersome yes, but not a big deal, right? (Wrong!)

If you’re lucky, you won’t end up with a chronic disease, and I sincerely hope that’s the case.  Odds are not in your favour, though. In Canada, 44% of adults 20+ have at least 1 of 10 common chronic conditions (source: Canada Public Health Services). When a chronic illness comes along, many people feel helpless, that the illness is now controlling them, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Instead of letting negative health conditions control you, let them motivate you. Most chronic illnesses can be managed or even reversed with lifestyle changes.  It’s not always easy to change lifestyle habits, especially when we are marketed to by food designers who want to turn us into addicts (hello, sugar!) and when we continue behaviours that don’t serve us (let’s spend the weekend in front of Netlflix, shall we?).

Is it that you can’t make a change or you won’t make a change?  It’s OK to say you won’t make a change … it’s being honest and actually more powerful than saying you can’t.

But if speaking the truth … “I won’t quit sugar” or “I won’t bother getting any exercise this week” … doesn’t sit right for you, then maybe you ARE ready for action.

Action puts you in a position of power.  From action you can effect changes in your health and your life.

I’ve seen the results of action with my clients, and I am amazed and inspired by them.  They KNEW they had to do something.  They started with small, manageable steps, building confidence along the way.  Their lives changed and the lives of the people they touch changed too.

It’s a beautiful thing to witness!

Take one client, who described the difference in her health as “night and day” after just three months of working with me.  She was sleeping better, her joint pain was gone, she was able to ride her bike again and could take her kids camping for the first time in years.  That’s the power of taking action!

Another client was barely able to walk down stairs because of the pain in his knees and was plagued by gout before he began to work with me.  When he started, he wasn’t sure he could get any better, but he committed to the work anyway.  By the time he finished the program, stairs were no longer a problem, lab tests with his medical practitioner showed many health markers had returned to “normal’ levels, and … he also lost 30 lbs!

It’s not just medical symptoms which improve through lifestyle changes.  My clients go from feeling powerless to empowered! By getting the ball rolling with me, they have a new confidence and belief in themselves.  They become empowered in their own health and take that with them for life.

I know firsthand how they feel because I had that same transformation when I made lifestyle changes. Bit by bit I regained energy, reduced inflammation and the pain went away. Instead of spending all day in bed, now I have the energy to help others on their own path to empowerment. It’s my passion and my calling.
