How Harnessing Desire Shapes Your Health

Imagine a world where the strength of your desire holds the key to unlocking your body's innate ability to heal itself. Today, I invite you to join me on a journey—an exploration of an unconventional approach to healing, one that begins with a single, powerful desire.

I know that harnessing desire works because it worked for me. 

It was 2016. I lay in bed, curled up in pain, overwhelmed by despair, and wondered, "How has my life come to this?"

Just three months earlier, I had celebrated my fiftieth birthday, a strong and vibrant woman full of hope and excitement for the 'freedom years' that lay ahead. Little did I know that pain, like an uninvited guest, would soon become a constant companion, robbing me of the life I had envisioned.

Pain had stealthily crept into my joints, leaving me walking like an old lady with a shuffle. My once strong hands lost their grip, and my nights were spent sleepless, filled with exhaustion and frustration. This unrelenting pain threatened to shatter my dreams and overshadow any glimpse of a promising future.

I was told there was no cure for rheumatoid arthritis, that I would learn to live with the pain, and my best option was to take my chances on the medications … and the side effects that came with them. 

Instead, I decided to apply my engineering problem-solving skills. 

Intrigued by the power of the mind (hello placebo effect) and the profound realm of personal development, I embarked on an experiment that would change the course of my healing journey: crafting a vivid vision of my heart's desires.

My vision took form—imagine me scaling Gros Morne Mountain, the second-highest peak on the island of Newfoundland, where I live. Every morning, I closed my eyes and visualized myself climbing that mountain. Arms raised triumphantly at the summit, the wind caressing my face, a mixture of awe and exhilaration coursing through me as I conquered my goal.

I made a vision board displaying the majestic Gros Morne. Added to it were affirmations: “I am an example of what’s possible,” “I am a healing machine,” and “Every day and in every way, I am getting stronger and stronger.” These filled me with strength and determined resolve. 

What I have come to learn is that starting with desire harnesses three fundamental laws of the universe, catalyzing the healing process: the Law of Vibration, the Law of Attraction, and the Law of Inspired Action.

First, the Law of Vibration—everything, tangible and intangible, resonates with unique frequencies of energy. Thoughts, emotions, desires, every cell in our being—all vibrate in constant motion. By focusing on my desired outcome, I created positive vibrational frequencies within, activating the parasympathetic state of the nervous system—a state conducive to healing.

The Law of Attraction teaches us that similar energies attract. Shifting focus from illness to the desired outcome attracts resources, opportunities, and circumstances for healing. My resolute desire and belief in healing brought thoughts and actions into harmonious alignment with this goal.

The Law of Inspired Action compels us to pursue our desires while relinquishing the need to control the 'how.' Keeping this clear desire at the forefront of my mind, I focused only on the outcome and then took inspired action to move me toward that goal. 

How can you or your patients cultivate this transformative desire? It's imperative that the desire be vividly envisioned, engaging as many senses as possible. Revisit this vision daily or multiple times a day. Surround yourself with visual cues that kindle this desire. Become a conscious creator.

And remember, the Laws of Vibration, Attraction, and Inspired Action—like gravity—operate ceaselessly.

As Joe Dispenza says, “If you want a new outcome, you will have to break the habit of being yourself, and reinvent a new self.”

Harnessing desire, guided by universal laws, reinvents a healthy self—a beacon in the future of your health.
